AIIM, hosted by the AIIM True North Chapter, invites you to join fellow information and data professionals for a free AI+IM Regional Exchange on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. This in-person panel discussion will explore how information governance and data governance intersect in the age of AI, examining the growing risks organizations face as technologies like LLMs, SLMs, Agentic AI, and RAG reshape the information landscape. Designed to encourage meaningful conversation, practical insight sharing, and peer-to-peer networking, this Regional Exchange will bring together practitioners looking to strengthen collaboration, improve governance strategies, and better prepare their organizations for AI readiness. This event is open to both members and non-members.

Information Governance and Data Governance: Fraternal Twins or Two Solitudes?
Organizations are facing a plethora of increasing risks due to poor information governance and data governance (IG / DG) practices. The risks are further amplified by AI, including the use of large language models (LLM), small language models (SLM), Agentic AI, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), etc. Are IG and DG really two separate worlds or fraternal twins working toward the same goal? How can integrating IG and DG help organizations manage and reduce operational and compliance risks? Come with your thoughts and questions to help us unpack what makes these disciplines different, what they have in common, and how they can come closer together. The panelists will cover:
-
A clear, practical definition of governance from both Information Management and Data Management perspectives
-
Insights into why IG and DG often operate separately from historical culture and operational differences to conflicting vocabularies and organizational politics
-
Strategies to bridge the divide, including unified language, lifecycle initiatives, joint ownership, and blended AI-focused skills
-
Guidance on policies for IG versus DG to improve the organization’s readiness to adopt IA tools
