ZCAV — See zoned constant angular velocity.

zirconium lamp — Special, high-intensity point source lamp frequently used because of its low emanation of long (heat) wavelength light and its concentrated source.

zoned constant angular velocity (ZCAV) — CAV type of disc with zones or rings allocated to rewritable information and other zones allocated to WORM information on the same disc. See also constant angular velocity and write-once read-many.

zoom — Enlarge the presentation size of information (such as text or images) displayed on a workstation monitor. (Currently defined in ISO2382-13 and ISO 12651-1)

zoom lens — Lens with movable optical elements that can retain an object in focus, while changing the lens focal length. Consequently, the size of the object can be varied, while the camera or reader remains in the same position.
