Bio

Dr. Gabriela Avram is Lecturer in Digital Media in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, and senior researcher at the Interaction Design Centre, University of Limerick. Her research focuses on collaborative work practices, knowledge management and social media. She has a strong involvement in social media, as early adopter, researcher and educator, being actively involved in the international social media community. Her current research focuses on applications of social media in corporate environments (Enterprise 2.0) from a user-centered design perspective. She holds a PhD in Information Systems from the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest (Romania). Between 2003 and 2005 she has undertaken postdoctoral studies funded by ERCIM in Germany(Fraunhofer IESE) and Luxembourg(CRP Henri Tudor), focusing on connecting knowledge management with e-learning initiatives. Between 2005 and 2008,she was the project manager for the socGSD research project (Social, Organizational and Cultural Aspects of Global Software Development) at the University of Limerick. Within that project, her own work concentrated on collaborative work practices in cross-cultural environments, and she worked with big companies like IBM, HP and Intel in Ireland, WIPRO and IBM in India, but also with SMEs in Ireland and Romania and Open Source communities. Gabriela is an IBM Faculty Fellow affiliated to the IBM Centre of advanced Studies in Dublin, Ireland, and the course director for the BSc in Digital Media Design course at the University of Limerick.
