Bio
John Newton (Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Alfresco Software Ltd.) has had one of the longest and most influential careers in content management. Considered by many to be the father of enterprise content management, Newton is credited with inventing many of the concepts widely used in the industry today, and has twice co-founded companies that radically changed how organizations manage the flow of information across the enterprise. In 1990, Newton co-founded, designed, and led the development of Documentum, which became the leader in content management and was acquired by EMC. He sent shockwaves through the industry again in 2005, when he co-founded Alfresco, an open source alternative to proprietary Enterprise Content Management vendors. He graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley. Newton is a regular attendee at the World Economic Forum meetings in Davos, where Alfresco was awarded a coveted Technology Pioneer designation. Newton is also a member of the AIIM Board of Directors.
