Social collaboration - my (and your) new AIIM blog

Hello, and welcome to my first, introductory post in my new blog here on AIIM. My name is Angela Ashenden, and I am a Principal Analyst at UK-based research and advisory firm MWD Advisors, where I run our Collaboration research program.

While collaboration is a broad and nebulous topic, my research focus is specifically on the emerging and fast-growing area of social collaboration - the use of social tools and technology to support and enable collaborative activity, be that inside an organisation, or outside, through collaboration with partners and customers. As you'll find out from my blog posts, while my job involves keeping a close eye on technology developments in this area, my real interest lies in how people make this technology work, and what they have to do at a broader cultural level to ensure they are not just throwing technology at the problem "willy nilly". In my research, I speak to many different organisations to understand what works, what doesn't, and to identify the best practices that I can share with others in organisations that may just be starting out on their journey, or who perhaps need to rethink their approach.

And so in this monthly blog, I want to share some of these invaluable "lessons learnt" with you, to invite your feedback, opinions and personal experiences, to enable us to collectively provide some clarity, direction and inspiration in this complex, confusing, and often daunting area of business strategy.

I look forward to the discussion!

Welcome to the Community!

Hi Angela,

Welcome to the AIIM Blog Community! Your contribution of Social Collaboration ought to be interesting, to say the least. This is a dynamic part of the new type of Enterprise communication that can be greatly useful, yet also extremely dangerous for organizations (i.e. Governance issues, compliance, etc.). People tend to be quite opinionated about Social so it will be terrific to learn from you, and other AIIM Community contributors, on this conversational topic. Can't wait!

Thanks Kevin

Thanks for your comment and welcome Kevin. I absolutely agree with you, this is one of those topics that doesn't fail to spark a reaction one way or another. Governance and compliance are definitely key aspects of this - I've added them to my list of topics to cover here at some point. Let me know if there are any others you'd like to see!
