Social Business Conference: Jacob Morgan and the Business Impact of Collaboration

In continuing with our series of interviews with the presenters from our Social Business Conference which is being held completely online this September 8, 2011. I asked Jacob Morgan  (Principal, Chess Media Group), what he plans to discuss with us and what else he is currently up to working on in the Social Business Field.

 

What are you going to speak about at the Social Business virtual conference Sept 8th? 
 
The ROI of enterprise collaboration, we have conducted an in depth study on the state of enterprise 2.0 and ROI as one of the things we addressed, we will share findings from the report as well as discuss ideas, insights, and examples of what we have seen from other organizations.
 
Do you have any examples of implementations or case studies?
 
We have a series of 5 in depth enterprise collaboration case studies which can be found here:
 
What will the attendees learn from your presentation?
 
We will actually cover a few things including:
  • The ROI paradox that many organizations are faced with
  • The question of, "is solving a business problem just as good as being able to show a financial ROI?"
  • Examples of what organizations are seeing and doing in terms of ROI
 
Really, the point of this session is to provide attendees with thought provoking ideas and insights around the ROI of collaboration, hopefully they will look at things a bit differently after this session.
 
 
How long would you say have been involved with social media from a business perspective?
 
Around 8 years
 
How have you seen social business impact your job/organization for the better?
 
Our entire organization and how we work with ourselves and clients has been based around the use of social and collaborative tools.  It's safe to say that without using these tools and strategies, that Chess Media Group, as a successful social business consultancy, would not exist today.
 
What do you expect or what would you like to see next in the adoption for social business tools or practices?
 
I would like to see organizations focus on strategies first and technologies second.  I also would like to see more organizations concerned with not just adoption but with sustaining adoption which is something that we typically see a few years out after implementation and thus an area that hasn't really been addressed much at this point.
 
What are you looking forward to the most about presenting for our virtual event?
 
Some interesting discussions and ideas around the ROI of collaboration, I'm excited to present but I'm also quite excited to learn as well.
 
Anything else you care to share with our AIIM Community Members? 
 
I'm in the process of writing a book for McGraw Hill around how social and collaborative tools are used within organizations.  I'm including ideas, insights, and advice from practitioners around the world at some of the worlds most recognized organizations.  If you are an executive or decision maker that helps make decisions around collaboration and would like to be included in the book, then please let me know.  I'm really looking forward to the event and hope to connect with everyone and have some great discussions!
