Sharepoint Document Management? simply thousands as a limit?

Sharepoint, Custom, what works for you? Okay, so everybody knows that Microsoft and Google are "going at it" and frankly, if you know Zen Tech, or have done work with us, you probably know I'm quite a fan of google. A pioneer of net neutrality, a harbringer of all that is open and free on the web... who wouldn't be if they had the whole story? Well, Big Business. You can just imagine the cost of making a switch from a Microsoft driven system to an open cloud based platform. And then comes the really nagging question... are the network speeds there yet? eh... not really. A "T1" connection is nothing more than a dirty little phone wire spiraling around your basement to make it up to your internet box. It isn't even 1MB/1MB most of the time, forget about the speed it takes to run cloud based platforms, databases, and such. That being said, LANs are reaching the gigabyte per second mark, making it a must to take advantages of the wealth of sharepoint features.. (which by the way, are focused largely on compliance) You can get a Sharepoint Overview there. Compliance Compliance, Compliance everywhere. Manage versions, apply retention schedules, declare records, and place legal holds, whether you're dealing with traditional content, Web content, or social content. Honestly, Sharepoint 2010 is the most extensive intranet ever developed. It would take months of custom work to even approach what this system can do for any business. You can see a video on what Sharepoint can offer you in this department here. Do you have specific needs? PHP with MYSQL. That's the way to go. IIS "bogs down after a thousand entries/levels" what's up with that? So greatness... with a limit? That's a serious conflict.
