Requirement to PRINT social media records

Community Topic(s):

Keywords: EPA social media paper printing

While discussing the upcoming Paper Free Day (Oct. 28th), Henri Achterkamp made me aware of the Government's Social Media Records Requirements: "The Environmental Protection Agency, meanwhile, requires records created or received via social media to be printed out on paper." Sounds like an archaic and confusing approach. Can anyone shed more light on this? Lets discuss alternatives.... If you want to know more about paper free day, check out www.aiim.org/paperfreeday

As I posted on the LinkedIn group where this discussion is also taking place, an alternative that the EPA could consider is using PDF or PDF/A. I would recommend PDF/A (ISO 19005-1) since it ensures the visual representation of the file by embedding the fonts, metadata and images with in the file. For more information about PDF/A, visit http://www.aiim.org/pdfa.
