How do you best engage your employees

This may seem like a rather broad question, but I am really interested in the specifics. I am part of a large, global organization that is looking to develop a Knowledge Management solution. We have two products in-house, SharePoint 2010 and Remedy, that have KM capabilities. What I am looking for is advice on how to create a solution that - has a user-friendly Search component - allows submissions from anyone - involves Social Media (Facebook, LinkedIn like) - most important - will engage employees to contribute and use Thank you in advance for any advice.
