Can we redirect (copy) printed documents to SharePoint without the need to Re-Scan

Community Topic(s):

Keywords: Capture;Printing;

Read a lot of information about  the possibility to scan directly into SharePoint but is it also possible to do the same for printed documents.

Here's the business question:

All printed documents should be stored in the ECM as well … e.g. first tagged as ‘unsigned‘ when printed, later as ‘signed’ back from customer.

At least there is a clear request on that point => Printed docs go in ECM (could come from Word, Exel, PDF, Image, Custom App … whatever). Or in other words is there an existing ‘Printer driver’ or equivalent to install on a PC that would first send to SP then to a predefined printer (in the driver).

Check out Planet Press software for transactional documents and Sharepoint integration. Planet Press is primarily for transactional document assembly and printing but has a very tight integration for tagging, indexing and routing to the appropriate place in your SPoint environment. All based on the data on a page.
Not as suited for adhoc printing however.
Just a thought.

Hello Geert,

Symtrax develops a software that can easily do this trick. It allows to supervise some specific folders on your PC and to do some actions as soon as a document arrives.

You can specify actions depending on :
file (name, size, type, format, extension, text, attributes, creation date)

Actions available are :
Delete, Copy, Print, Save As, Print as text, Send by Email, Add to Zip

Printers can be defined within the software and files can have successive actions :
Print and Delete
Print and Save on SP then Delete
Save on SP then E-mail

If you have any questions, I'd be glad to help you :)

Barr Systems EOM can be used to archive all printed documents from any source application to PDF and into the ECM system. As Curt mention so can Planet Press from Objectif Lune. Planet Press could also automate the capture of "wet signature" documents by using Anoto pens and pattern on the document to eliminate scanning of the signed document. Both of these software applications can b e configured to be transparent to the user printing, they just press print.

We recently released a Docs4ECM application that can do scanning but also printing and mail integration. We support both Office365 and Sharepoint. You can check out the scanning, printing, and mail features for Sharepoint/Office365 here:
