Big Data, Big Possibilities

A little over a month ago I wrote this post about Big Data. Yesterday Jesse Wilkins called Big Data transformative (I agree, btw) and R Ray Wang Tweeted "... Grab the data. Find the correlations later" (with which I partially disagree - reasons are in the linked post). Also, during this webcast (you really should check it out) Andrew McAfee compared the changes we’re seeing as a result of cloud computing and Big Data to the changes that were undergone when factories changed over from steam to electricity.
Beyond the staid notions of BI & analytics we’re all used to in CRM and Marketing, where can Big Data take us as a society (let’s not dwell on how much $$$ is gonna be spent)? What is Big Data’s potential for good or evil? E.g.: in the webcast, McAfee mentioned that incidences / outbreaks of the flu were predicted faster & with greater accuracy by analyzing Google searches than by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Where do you see Big Data taking us? Discuss ....
