Should previous ERM attendees take the new and improved ERM course?

AIIM revised in early 2009 the course material for its ERM Practitioner and Specialist (and combined, its Master) courses. The original content was developed in 2006 and there have been substantial changes in the methods, standards and technologies for addressing electronic records management (ERM) since that time. AIIM has also taken the comments made by its thousands of students who have taken the courses, online and in our classrooms, and have consolidated and improved the course curriculum.

Attendees who have previously completed the ERM program should take this newer version to enhance their skills and strengthen what they learned in the prior course. In addition to updating their certificates and designations, attending the revised program will bring benefit from the expanded focus on;
  • SharePoint, ERM and ECM solutions for managing electronic records
  • Retention schedule and disposition
  • Metadata model, classification scheme and access control
  • Digital preservation techniques
  • Global best practices for implementation ERM
  • Email capture and retention

How does this effect my ERM Designation?

Your designation is valid for 5 years from the time you passed and obtained it. This remains the case, this new course does not overide the designation you currently have. It is an update of the materials so should you decide you would like to partake in the new program and obtain your designation again, you will have another 5 years to use the logo and certificate.
