How do I become a Practitioner, Specialist or
Master?
The Practitioner, Specialist and Master programs lead to AIIM
designations. This is a new AIIM standard for industry
professionalism and knowledge. By earning these designations, you
can call yourself an AIIM ECM, ERM, IOA, BPM, EMM or E2.0
Practitioner, Specialist or Master. You can use the associated
logo and title on your business card, email signature, web page,
etc. The Strategy Workshop does not lead to any AIIM
designations. To become a Practitioner:
- Option 1: Attend a 2-day Practitioner class and pass the
online exam after attending this class. The exam has to be passed
within 6 months.
- Option 2: Take all Practitioner training modules online and
pass the online exams at the end of each module.

How does the online exam work?
Online students: Students taking the online courses get one
small exam after each module with approximately 20 questions.
You need 70% correct to pass, and you get 3 attempts. All exams
are taken via the AIIM website, and you will immediately be
told if you have passed or failed. You will also be informed of
the topics that you did not answer successfully. Classroom
attendees: Students have to answer one large multiple choice
online exam with approximately 65 questions. You need 70%
correct to pass, and you get 3 attempts. You will be told
immediately if you have passed or failed and you will also be
informed of the topics that you did not answer successfully.
Students have 90 minutes to answer the large online exam, but
students with disabilities and from non-English speaking
countries will be given an additional 30 minutes. People with
disabilities may apply for this extension by email to
training@aiim.org.
How well known are the designations?
These are new industry standards for professionalism and
knowledge supported by AIIM and the members of the AIIM
Education Advisory Groups. AIIM has been promoting the
designations to all its 50,000 members in newsletters, mailers,

become the industry standard for knowledge and professionalism.
How long are the designations valid?
The designations are valid for 5 years, and the renewal
process is currently being defined by the AIIM Education
Advisory Groups. AIIM will regularly review the process for the
development and maintenance of the certificate schemes for
improved quality, security and efficiency. This will be done in
partnership with the Education Advisory Groups and Master
Accreditation Committee.
How do I challenge specific exam questions or an
entire exam?

taking the exam or appeal the Home Case Study evaluation within
1 month of receiving their results. Online and classroom
attendees may challenge exam questions by providing the
