Which Master Home Case Study should I answer?
Master class attendees should answer only one (1) of the three (3) or four (4) alternative assignments. Home Case Study assignments are given to you the last day of a Master class. You are not able to download the case studies from our website. Please do not write your name in the home case study and you should also ensure that your name is not part of the document properties. You upload the case study via your course area on the AIIM website. AIIM industry experts review the Home Case Study submissions without knowing your identity. PLEASE NOTE: Case study submissions are individual exercises. Any case studies submitted which are duplicates of another students work will be given an automatic failing grade and no opportunity to resubmit.
When is the deadline for submitting my Master Home Case Study?
You have 3 months from the last day of class to submit your Home Case Study, but you will be given a 3 month extension if you submit a written request to training@aiim.org. No students will be given an additional extension beyond the first one.
Who evaluates the Case Studies?
Case Studies are reviewed by an appointed AIIM Master Accreditation Committee that consists of leading industry professionals.
How are Master Home Case Studies evaluated?
The industry experts review the entire case study, consisting of three (3) or four (4) tasks, based on the following parameters:
- Content - for each task assigned, the student needs to demonstrate and show understanding of the topic. The student will not only discuss the topic but also must be able to elaborate on it to show clearly that they have a sound grasp of the subject. The content provided can be outside the course material but using the course material may make it much easier for the student to show a sound understanding of the topic. The AIIM course does provide substantial material for students to support their arguments.
- Evidence and reasoning - for each task assigned, the student needs to provide the theory of the topic and present the case study organization's issues and circumstances to support the action that the student is identifying. A lot of content is provided in the course material, as well as a large volume of descriptive information on the particular organization, which will give the student substantial details to use in their response. Is this information provided by the student to substantiate their arguments? From the information provided, does the student show sound analysis and skills to support an appropriate response to the task?
- Professionalism (Organization and literacy) - for each task assigned, the student needs to demonstrate that they have the skills to present a well-thought out response, and in a professional manner. This means that the response is well constructed, presented in a logical manner and is grammatically correct.
Each of these categories will be evaluated using the following structure:
- Outstanding grade
- Passing grade
- Correctable grade
- Failing grade
The final grade is to be assigned across all three (or four) tasks of the alternative assignment responded to by the student. The tasks are taken as a whole and the overall grade is assigned. For example, the response to Task 1 may be found to be at an Outstanding level and the response to Task 2 could be at a Passing level. All work must be taken into consideration to assign the final grade for the whole case study - in this case, a Passing grade.
In the same way, the response to the case study must satisfy all three categories for the assigned grade level. For example, a student may be given a Passing rating for Content and/or Professionalism, but a Correctable level for Evidence and Reasoning. The overll rating should be the lowest level across these three categories - in this instance, a Correctable rating.
There are two circumstances that arise from time to time:
- The student may respond to all alternative assignments that were provided, instead of picking only one. The grader will only mark the first task completed and assign a rating.
- The student does not complete all the tasks required in the alternative assignment. The case study will be assigned a Correctable rating and the student will be instructed to complete the missing work and resubmit.
What are the possible outcomes? Submitted case study answers will be graded as Outstanding, Passing, Correctable or Failing with the following results:
- Outstanding: You will be notified by AIIM that your Home Case Study submission was approved and you will be awarded the Master designation if, or when, you have also passed the Master exam.
- Passing: You will be notified by AIIM that your Home Case Study submission was approved and you will be awarded the Master designation if, or when, you have also passed the Master exam.
- Correctable: AIIM will ask you to resubmit with additional information or corrections. Your reply will be forwarded by AIIM to the industry experts for another review to allow them to assign a grade to your submission.
- Failing: You will be notified by AIIM that your Home Case Study submission was not approved by the industry experts, but also receive documentation from AIIM explaining why you failed. You will be allowed to submit a new Home Case Study based on a different alternative assignment (not the same one as before) within 6 weeks without having to sit for a new class.
AIIM is required to document why the reviewers fail a submission or why they require the work to be resubmitted.
How long do I have to wait for my results?
It usually takes 4-6 weeks for AIIM to review your Home Case Study, and you will be notified about the result by email. You can check the status of your case study by either emailing mastercases@aiim.org or checking your My Courses area and List Certificates.
How do I appeal an evaluation?
You may challenge exam questions within 1 month of taking the exam or appeal the Home Case Study evaluation within 1 month of receiving the results. Former Master Class attendees that have submitted and failed a Home Case Study assignment may appeal the decision by providing the following documentation via email to training@aiim.org
- Name and full address
- Date and city they attended the Master class
- Date they submitted the answers to the Home Case Study
- Description of Home Case Study exercise
- Argumentation supporting the request to reverse the decision.
Industry experts that were not part of the initial review will review appeals.
