An AIIM Research Brief
For 20 years or more, capture has been the entry point for document store-and-retrieve systems and increasingly, for Business Process Management (BPM) where data extraction from the document is used to feed a downstream business process such as issuance of credit, adjudication of a claim, fulfillment of an order, or customer enrollment in a program.
During this time, AIIM has seen a steady increase in the number of organizations transitioning from basic scanning of paper documents for archive to the more sophisticated upfront data capture of multi-format content as input to business processes. As a result, we have frequently recorded a strong return on investment performance from these scanning and capture projects that include process improvement as a defined objective on the front end.
