Bio:

Denise Bedford is currently the Goodyear Professor of Knowledge Management at the College of Communication and Information, Kent State University. Her responsibilities include: teaching foundational and elective courses in knowledge management, communities of practice, economics of information, semantic analysis, enterprise architecture, business intelligence, intellectual capital management and information environments. She is currently engaged in expanding the M.A. program and the future Ph.D. program in Knowledge Management, as well as outreach and support to the national and international knowledge management communities. Her current research interests include knowledge architectures and knowledge engineering, business architecture and business rules representation, document engineering and content architectures, multilingual architecture, search system design/architecture, semantic analysis methods, communities of practice, knowledge transfer, and economics of knowledge.

Dr. Bedford retired from the World Bank in 2010 where her responsibilities included development of the Bank’s core metadata and content type strategies, ontologies, taxonomies and the World Bank’s multilingual topic thesaurus, development and operationalization of the Bank’s semantic analysis technologies, enterprise search and content management architectures.

Dr. Bedford’s career also includes: NASA, Intel Corporation, Stanford University, the American Mathematical Association, the University of California, University of Michigan and University of Southern California. She is currently adjunct faculty at Georgeotown University, and University of Tennessee where she teaches a variety of courses in information architecture, knowledge management, systems management, and semantic applications. She provides consulting support to the World Bank, USAID, Unicef, SAIC and other organizations. She is a member of several professional associations including ASIST, ACM, AIIM, SLA, ALA and AAAI. Her educational background includes a B.A. triple major in History, in Russian Language/Literature, and in German Language/Literature from the University of Michigan; an M.A.in Russian History also from University of Michigan; an M.S. in Librarianship from Western Michigan University, and a Ph.D. in Information Science from University of California, Berkeley.

Bio:

Over 30 years extensive technical experience working with various electronic content management (ECM) technologies including document imaging, forms, OCR/ICR, document/library services, various forms of process routing and production workflow.  This experience ranges from the technical development role, analysis and design/implementation roles, and project management roles encompassing all aspects of technical project management, ECM system design, development, and full solution implementation.  In addition, consulting activities have included providing ECM system analysis, project management and technical assistance and training to numerous clients either implementing or planning to implement content management systems. Experience also includes participating in a significant number of ECM industry seminars (AIIM, EDM); writing various content management related articles for industry magazines and very active in the ISO standard setting activities as project leader, ISO expert, and as Vice Chair of the US Delegation. 

Inducted into the AIIM Company of Fellows in 2005 (#173).  Established in 1963, the Company of Fellows honors those individuals in the association who merit recognition and distinction for their outstanding contributions to the enterprise content management (ECM) industry.  Since 1963, a total of 175 people have been given this award on a world-wide basis. Mr. Blatt has been chair-person for several AIIM standard setting committees including C21 (Advanced Data Storage), Implementation Guidelines (ARP 1), C27 (Document Management Technologies), C27.3 (Trusted Systems), and is a current member of the AIIM Standards Board.  Mr. Blatt has developed and participated in the development of numerous ECM industry and ISO standards and best practices and is an acknowledge international industry expert and analyst.

Accredited as an AIIM-Master of Information Technology in 1997, and AIIM-Document Imaging Laureate in 1998.  Received the Laureate credentials and recognition in Document Imaging in 1998 and the Laureate credentials and recognition in Workflow technologies in 1998.  Appointed to AIIM/ANSI US TAG in 1998 and elected Vice-Chair of the US Delegation to ISO in 2006.  This committee represents US interests in the Content/Document Management and Workflow industries establishing international standards.

Mr. Blatt has been President and Principal Consultant with Electronic Image Designers (EID), Inc.   EID is one of the industry's first vendor neutral consulting organizations focusing on large enterprise implementation efforts, always working directly with the client/end-user organization.   EID has several very senior level resources that provide client services ranging from the legal perspectives, to the records management perspective, and all aspects of the technologies being selected, designed, and implemented.   EID has provided these services for over 18 years at both the national and international levels bringing a level of expertise  benefiting organizations that require direct knowledge related to industry standards and how these technologies actually function in the "real-world" environments

Additionally, Mr. Blatt has over 10 years of Electronic Forensic (EDF) experience and advanced technology experience ranging from technical design and implementation of large enterprise systems to detailed analysis and examination of electronically stored information (ESI) in enterprise wide and/or distributed computing and storage environments.  Mr. Blatt provided technical investigative experience to state securities regulators on the first 2 national eDiscovery cases and has spoken at numerous enforcement training conferences and other training venues.

Locations:

Mr. Blatt is willing to travel both nationally and internationally as long as EID client work activities are not adversely impacted.   All travel costs are the responsibility of the organization, and no fees are charged for Mr. Blatt's time while he is speaking on behalf of and representing the various ANSI standard setting committee's that he currently chairs.  All speaking engagements and travel arrangements must be scheduled in advance to accommodate all schedules.

 

     

     

     

    • Annual AIIM Intl. Conference and Standards Meetings (1994-2004) - Each year, Mr. Blatt was selected to speak on multiple topics ranging from industry standards, to technology implementation issues, and has been a frequent speaker at various AIIM chapters.
    • Electronic Document Forensic Workshop (Instructor) 2004 - This workshop provided technical information related to Electronic Document Forensics and challenges faced by regulators.  Information provided during this workshop expanded the attendee's general understanding of enterprise document management technologies (imaging, workflow, email, content services, etc.) and how these technologies affect investigations.  Additionally, information shared during this workshop further improved the ability to draft the computer related/technical aspects of discovery orders and understand what technologies should be examined during an investigation.  This workshop was provided to banking, insurance, and securities regulators for Washington, District of Columbia DISB, State of Virginia, and the State of Maryland.
    • Several NASAA Winter Enforcemenet Conferences (Panelist) (2002, 2003, 2004)
    • Electronic Document Forensic Workshop (Instructor) (2003) - This workshop provided technical information related Electronic Document Management  (EDM) technologies, how they are commonly used, and what types of information are contained within these systems.  Electronic Document Forensic activities associated with EDM systems were discussed for use by regulators, especially during investigations.    This workshop was provided to the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA).  Its membership consists of the securities administrators in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

    Bio:

    A 20+ year veteran of the Microsoft Corporation, Cherie Ekholm has been involved in standards work since 2007, when she joined the PDF/UA committee at AIIM. Her experience with accessibility dates back to the 1990s, and includes customer, implementer and QA perspectives. She is active in mentoring women at the university level and was instrumental in starting a course on Quality Assurance in Software Engineering at her alma mater, Whitworth University. Cherie owns engagement for the Microsoft Office group in the PDF standards, accessibility and other areas. In addition to speaking engagements at Whitworth University, and ATIA conferences, Cherie has created and lead training sessions at Microsoft in a variety of topics, including accessibility, software development lifecycle, PDF testing, etc. She has received training from the Cramer Institute for speaking and presenting, and worked with others to create presentations for various topics for both Microsoft and for PDF/UA. When not working or traveling for standards or speaking activities, Cherie enjoys working with both rescue and show dogs, especially her three Bichon Frisé, weaving and hand-dyeing yarn, and collecting kaleidoscopes.

    Bio:

    Duff Johnson is a veteran of the electronic document industry. In 1996, Duff founded Document Solutions, Inc., the first electronic document service bureau dedicated to PDF technology.
