EMC acquired Documentum in 2003, and this platform is now part of EMC's content management and archiving business unit, one of EMC's four operating divisions.

The EMC Documentum Records Management solutions help you comply with the recordkeeping requirements of regulations and leverage uniform policies across all formats, including both physical and electronic records.

  • EMC Documentum Retention Policy Services, the core retention engine, automates content retention and disposition in compliance with regulations, legal stipulations, and best practices. Customers can add Retention Policy Services independently to any supported EMC Documentum environment to manage any type of content that is supported by Documentum.
  • EMC Documentum Physical Records Services adds the ability to manage physical records in conjunction with your electronic files with one centralized set of policies.
  • EMC Documentum Federated Records Services offers the ability to centrally manage records that may be spread across numerous repositories within the enterprise. It controls third-party repositories, aging legacy repositories, or even home-grown solutions for records.
  • EMC Documentum Records Manager provides the full-blown formal records specifications for compliance with Department of Defense 5015.2 regulations.

The EMC Documentum Records Management solution is built on a modular, service-oriented architecture. Customers can manage all their records with a single set of policies that meet business needs and help with overall information governance.

EMC Documentum Records Management solutions can be used in multiple situations from transparently managing the lifecycle of large volumes of corporate information, to managing specific sets of formal records, to managing physical records with the same policies as electronic records to managing multiple repositories with a single set of policies.

Licensing is per seat basis for RPS, RM, and PRS. Additional charges for FRS per repository plus connectors.
