A solid retention management program is the cornerstone of consistent application of records management principles for any organization. Without that foundation, consistency in determining what documents are kept as records and for how long (and therefore compliance) is nearly impossible. You need that consistency for proper governance. As important as this piece of the records management puzzle is, it’s too often given short shrift.

Join us as we emphasize the importance of retention planning and the cascading impact (good or bad) it has on compliance, consistency, and governance for any organization. Believe it or not, there IS a business case for good governance and retention planning is a critical step in the process.

While security is still often-cited as the primary concern given by users hesitant to place their content in the “cloud,” the software-as-a-service model is functioning: saving money and providing value for companies regardless of industry and for a variety of applications. That said, sometimes, some information can’t be managed in the public cloud either due to corporate culture or industry regulations. In those situations, you don’t need to completely forego a cloud strategy.

Join us for a strategy session that discusses how you can formulate a hybrid strategy to keep your information safe behind a firewall while providing access from the cloud to that information.

How many times have you had to create a document from scratch when most of that document, let’s call it Document A, is composed of many of the exact same elements from Documents B, C, and D? Wouldn’t it be simpler, faster, and more accurate if you could reuse blocks of content to build your Document A? Enter the Darwin Information Typing Architecture, DITA. Delivering on the promise of XML, being the content management poster child for reusability, DITA brings structure to unstructured content and saves your employees time as they create the same document over and over – allowing them to devote their energy to more productive work. Join us for a one-hour overview of DITA where you’ll learn:

      • What DITA is
      • How it’s applicable to multiple ECM applications
      • The Business Value of using DITA

According to OASIS, DITA “defines a set of techniques for using XML in order to enable the effective and efficient development of re-usable information components, primarily in the context of technical documentation, informative websites, and similar types of structured, topically-focused information for consumption by humans.”

On the surface, implementing SharePoint as an enterprise content management solution seems simple and straightforward. After all, pop in your disk and, voila, SharePoint is installed. Yet, like every other single piece of information technology, deciding the proper role for SharePoint in your organization becomes complicated. Fast. How do you determine the role that SharePoint can play in your ECM strategy? We’re here to help.

SharePoint can, and will, play a key role in many organizations’ enterprise content management strategy. However, other than for some smaller companies, SharePoint is not an ECM infrastructure in and of itself; it needs to integrate with and be extended by other products for issues such as compliance, storage management, document imaging, etc. Discover how to leverage the capabilities of both SharePoint and ECM tools, including issues around interoperability. We’ll conclude with a look at potential return on investment.

As an increasing amount of vital business documents and records are born digital; long-term access to those pieces of content will be increasingly difficult—unless you start planning now. While a paper record might be difficult to find after a number of years, you’re almost certain to be able to read it once you do. Digital content is a little (to understate the case) more problematic. Media degradation; metadata/search concerns; not to mention the need to migrate content from software system to software system to maintain access can all lead to loss of fidelity, chain of custody, or just not being able to ever find a critical piece of content again.

What’s the answer? While specifics, of course, will differ depending on your business needs—you need to PLAN. Join us for a discussion around determining your vital records and then the elements of the plan that you need to undertake so that you can find—and read—them as long as necessary.
